The Professional Master's Program in Literature in National Network (Profletras) is a stricto sensu postgraduate course that counts with the participation of Brazilian public institutions of higher education and is coordinated by the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN).
Profletras - USP began in 2013 and is one of the programs of the Department of Classical and Vernacular Literature of the School of Philosophy, Literature and Humanities.
The target audience is teachers with a degree in Literature who are working in the classroom, teaching Portuguese language in public elementary schools.
The program's main objective is to improve the teaching of Portuguese language at the fundamental level II, aiming to make students proficient in reading and writing skills. To this end, it qualifies teachers to deepen their linguistic knowledge, reflecting on different uses of language, and to produce teaching materials that can develop students' multiple communicative competencies.
The Program's projects are linked to two lines of research: "Language Theory and Teaching" and "Reading and Textual Production: social diversity and teaching practices".
The admission of students takes place through a National Entrance Examination, consisting of a test that has the purpose of assessing the candidate's reading and writing skills.
The student must complete the master's degree in up to 24 months and must take six courses, offered in two semesters, totaling 24 credits.
The program has Capes scholarships offered to 30% of the students.
